How to integrate ShipBob with Swap (Returns V2)

The ShipBob integration creates returns in ShipBob automatically and brings quality control outcomes back into Swap. This article covers how to connect it and what it does.

Written by Guido Kaspers

This article explains how to connect ShipBob to Swap for warehouse quality control (QC) across your fulfilment centres, so returns are created in ShipBob automatically and QC outcomes flow back into Swap.

ℹ️ This article covers Returns V2. ShipBob currently supports returns creation and QC outcomes only. ShipBob is not yet available as a shipping carrier for return labels — existing shipping labels, carrier routing rules and return addresses are unaffected by this integration.

Before you start

  • A ShipBob account with the fulfilment centre(s) that receive your orders already set up.

  • A ShipBob Personal Access Token. Generate one from your ShipBob dashboard under Integrations → API Tokens → Generate New Token — see ShipBob's Authentication documentation.

ℹ️ A Personal Access Token doesn't expire and grants full account access. Store it securely, and rotate it periodically as ShipBob recommends.

Connect the integration

  1. Go to Returns → Integrations

  2. Find ShipBob in the Apps panel and click Connect

  3. In the ShipBob setup dialog, enter your Personal Access Token and click Connect

You can also connect ShipBob from Returns → Quality control: under Quality control providers, open the WMS Provider tab, choose Shipbob from Choose the WMS to integrate with, and click Integrate.

Once connected, the 4 different provider conditions/outcomes are automatically provisioned so there is no additional manual setup required.

What the integration does

Return creation. When a customer submits a return, Swap automatically creates the corresponding RMA in ShipBob, against the fulfilment centre the original order shipped from.

QC outcomes. Swap polls ShipBob for completed returns and updates item-level statuses on the RMA — for example Restock, Dispose, or Quarantine — without anyone updating the RMA by hand.

Condition mapping and approval rules behave the same as for any connected provider. For how each condition maps to a Store condition and how approval rules are applied, see Understanding quality control. For what a connected provider sends and what happens when results don't arrive, see Understanding quality control by integration.

What doesn't change

Enabling ShipBob has no effect on your existing shipping labels, carrier routing rules, or return addresses. These continue to work exactly as they did before the integration was enabled.

Known limitation

⚠️ If a return has two or more line items sharing the same SKU, QC outcomes may all be applied to the first matching line rather than split correctly across each one. This is a known limitation shared with the Mintsoft integration, and affects only returns with duplicate-SKU line items.
