If your store uses an inclusive tax strategy and you fulfil orders through ShipStation, this article explains how to connect ShipStation to Swap via Trackstar — so your commercial invoices and shipping labels use Swap's corrected customs values, not the inflated Shopify prices that result from inclusive tax pricing.
Before you start
This integration only applies to orders processed under an inclusive tax strategy (tax-inclusive or duty-inclusive pricing). It does not apply to checkout strategy orders.
You will need:
Admin access to ShipStation
Admin access to your Swap account
Step 1: Generate your ShipStation API keys
Log into ShipStation and go to Account > API Settings.
Set API Version to V1.
Click Generate APIKey.
Copy both the API Key and API Secret — they are shown only once. Store them somewhere secure.
Note: We recommend setting a 12-month expiry on your API keys.
Step 2: Connect Trackstar in Swap
Log into Swap and go to Store Settings > Trackstar.
Click Connect.
Enter the API Key and API Secret from Step 1.
Click Save.
How it works
Once connected, Trackstar acts as a middleware between Swap and ShipStation. When a new order appears in ShipStation, Trackstar sends a request to the ShipStation API to update the line item prices with Swap's corrected customs values. This means any label you generate in ShipStation will declare the correct customs value — not the inflated Shopify price.
Step 3: Validate your first order
Before processing live orders at scale, verify the integration is working correctly.
Find an order that was placed under an inclusive tax strategy — not a checkout strategy order.
In ShipStation, confirm the order has Awaiting Shipment status. Trackstar can only update an order before a label is created.
Wait at least 1 hour after the order appears in ShipStation before printing the label — this gives Trackstar time to complete the customs value update. (It's unlikely that the update will take 1 hour, but if it hasn't happened by then you'll know that something is wrong.)
Create the label and confirm the declared customs value reflects Swap's corrected figure, not the original Shopify price.
Important: Once an order is marked as Shipped or a label has been created, Swap can no longer update the customs values for that order. If your ShipStation account uses an auto-ship cadence, review your timing settings to ensure Trackstar has enough time to update values before labels are generated automatically.
