Before you start

Free shipping in Swap Global works through shipping rules applied to a shipping zone. You create a rule with an order value (or weight) condition, then add a shipping rate with a value of zero. You'll need an existing shipping zone to work with — if you haven't set one up yet, see How to manage shipping zones in Swap Global.

ℹ️ When using Swap Global, shipping discounts apply to the whole shipping line, including taxes and duties. See How to handle shipping discounts with Swap Global for more detail.

Choosing your threshold value

A free shipping threshold works best when set above your average order value — high enough to protect margins, but not so high it deters customers. If your average order is £40, a £50 threshold encourages top-up purchases without giving away shipping on most orders.

ℹ️ Tax strategy and threshold calculation: You can choose whether your tax strategy is factored into the subtotal when evaluating the threshold. This is configured in the zone's Rule Settings. With VAT-inclusive pricing enabled, this means a customer's displayed (VAT-inclusive) subtotal is used — so they're more likely to qualify.

Adding a free shipping threshold

  1. Navigate to Global > Zones > Shipping from the left-hand menu.

  2. Click on the shipping zone you want to update.

  3. Scroll to Rules and click Add New Rule.

  4. Give the rule a name (e.g. "Free shipping over £50").

  1. Click Add Condition.

  2. Set the parameter to Cart Subtotal (or Cart Weight for a weight-based threshold).

  3. Choose a comparison operator — typically Greater Than Or Equal To.

  4. Enter your threshold value and select the currency.

  5. If needed, click Add Condition again to add a second condition (e.g. subtotal AND weight). Conditions on different variables use AND logic.

  6. Click Add Shipping Option.

  7. Name the option as it will appear to customers at checkout (e.g. "Free shipping").

  8. Set the value to 0 and select the currency.

  9. Adjust any shipping rate settings if needed.

  10. Click Save to save the rule, then Save again to save the zone.
