To start using Swap, you need to install the Swap app in your Shopify store. Once installed, Swap will automatically connect to your store and prepare the dashboard.
Install the Swap app
Go to the Shopify App Store.
Search for Swap Returns & Exchanges.
Click Install.
Review the permissions requested by Shopify.
Click Install app to confirm.
Once installation is complete, Shopify will redirect you to the Swap dashboard to create an account.
Swap will automatically connect to your Shopify store during this step.
We recommend saving the Swap dashboard as a bookmark or favourite so you can easily access it later. Using “Open app” within Shopify can cause the app to reinstall or re-trigger the onboarding flow.
What happens after installation
After the app is opened for the first time:
Your Shopify store is automatically detected.
Your onboarding manager will help setting up Swap Returns.
The Swap dashboard becomes available for configuration.
From there, you can continue setting up your return settings, exchange options, and other Swap features.
Updating the app
In some cases, you may be asked to update the Swap app to ensure you are running the latest version. You do not need to do this unless specifically requested.
To update the app:
Go to your Shopify admin.
Navigate to Apps.
Find Swap Returns & Exchanges.
The previous app name “Swap shipping & returns” is also correct.
Click the “…” (three dots) menu next to the app.
Select the option to reinstall or update the app.
This will reinstall the app and apply any required updates.
If you see a screen stating "You need permission to update Swap Shipping & Returns", you do not have the required store permissions to complete this action. Ask your Shopify store admin to perform the update on your behalf.
Legacy apps
Using legacy versions of the Swap app is no longer recommended. You can recognise these by their name: Swap Returns — Shop Name. Existing installations continue to function, but Shopify does not permit new installations of legacy apps. If you are setting up Swap for the first time, install the current version from the Shopify App Store.
