To start using Swap, you need to install the Swap app in your Shopify store. Once installed, Swap will automatically connect to your store and prepare the dashboard.

Once installation is complete, Swap will automatically connect to your Shopify store.

We recommend saving the Swap dashboard as a bookmark or favourite so you can easily access it later. Using "Open app" within Shopify can cause the app to reinstall or re-trigger the onboarding flow.

After Swap connected to your store, and the app is opened for the first time:

From there, you can continue setting up your return settings, exchange options, and other Swap features.

In some cases, you may be asked to update the Swap app to ensure you are running the latest version. You do not need to do this unless specifically requested.

To update the app:

This will reinstall the app and apply any required updates.

If there is nothing to update, clicking Open app does not take you to your dashboard — you'll see the Swap onboarding page instead. This happens because Shopify sends the same event for installing and opening an app, so Swap cannot distinguish between the two actions. To reach your dashboard directly, use the bookmark saved during installation (see above) rather than Open app in Shopify admin.

If you see a screen stating "You need permission to update Swap Shipping & Returns", you do not have the required store permissions to complete this action. Ask your Shopify store admin to perform the update on your behalf.

Using legacy versions of the Swap app is no longer recommended. Existing installations continue to function, but Shopify does not permit new installations of legacy apps. If you are setting up Swap for the first time, install the current version from the Shopify App Store.
