This article explains why duties and taxes may not be calculated for Shopify orders processed through Swap, and how to resolve each cause.
Swap shipping rate not applied
Swap calculates duties and taxes only when its own shipping rates are used. If a custom rate is applied instead (for example, "DEALER SHIPPING"), duties and taxes will not be calculated and the order will not sync to the Swap Dashboard.
To resolve this:
When creating an order manually, select a Swap shipping rate rather than a custom rate.
If you use a B2B app to create draft orders, ensure the integration calls Swap rates via API rather than applying custom rates.
If an order was already created without a Swap rate, recreate it manually:
Create a manual order in Shopify.
Add the customer and product details.
Select a Swap shipping rate in the shipping line.
Save the order — this triggers the sync to the Swap Dashboard and calculates duties and taxes.
New fulfillment location not configured
If you've added a new fulfillment location, duties and taxes will not calculate correctly until Swap rates and a valid address are set up for that location.
To resolve this:
In Shopify, go to Shipping and delivery settings and add Swap rates to the shipping profile for the new location.
Verify that the location has a complete physical address — without a valid origin address, Swap cannot calculate duties and taxes accurately.
Unexpected invoice for duties and taxes
If you receive an unexpected invoice for duties, taxes, and importer fees, it is likely due to a fulfillment status discrepancy.
Swap bills based on the order fulfillment date. If certain orders did not receive the correct fulfillment status from Shopify into Swap during the original billing period, they will be invoiced in a later period once the discrepancy is reconciled.
