Troubleshooting pricing issues

Common causes of pricing discrepancies in Swap Global, and how to resolve each one.

Written by Jemma O'Leary

This article covers the most common causes of pricing discrepancies in Swap Global — including prices that differ between the storefront and checkout — and how to resolve each one.

Tax configuration

If customers see a different price at checkout than on the storefront, the most common cause is tax being collected by both Shopify and Swap. Shopify tax collection needs to be disabled for all countries where Swap is handling duties and taxes.

To disable Shopify tax collection for international markets:

  1. In Shopify, go to Settings → Taxes and duties.

  2. Check that tax collection is disabled for every country where Swap handles shipping. If correctly disabled, the "Collecting" column shows a dash.

If you use VAT-inclusive pricing, you also need to ensure Shopify isn't adding tax on top. In Settings > Taxes and duties, make sure: Include sales tax in product price and shipping rate is enabled.

For more on this, see VAT-inclusive pricing.

Interfering Shopify app

Apps that manage discounts, currency conversion, or dynamic pricing can interfere with how Swap displays prices.

To identify whether an app is causing the issue:

  1. In your Shopify admin, review your installed apps and identify any related to pricing, currency conversion, or discounts.

  2. Temporarily disable those apps and check whether the pricing issue persists.

  3. If disabling a specific app resolves the issue, remove it permanently to prevent recurrence.

Country/region redirection not enabled

If Shopify cannot determine a customer's location until they enter their address at checkout, prices may display inconsistently. Enabling country/region redirection lets Shopify detect the customer's location earlier, which ensures correct price and tax calculations from the start.

To enable this:

  1. In Shopify, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Under Automatic redirection, enable the Country/region toggle.

Testing your changes

After making changes, clear your browser cache and cookies and test your store in an incognito window — this removes cached data and lets you see prices exactly as a customer would.

  • Check prices on the storefront.

  • Add items to the cart and proceed to checkout to confirm prices remain consistent.
