The search bar in the Returns dashboard lets you look up RMAs using several types of information. Rather than searching by order number alone, you can choose a search category that matches the information you have to hand.

Choosing a search category

Before typing your search term, select the appropriate category from the dropdown in the search bar. The search will only look within the selected category.

The available search categories are:

  • Order # — Search by the Shopify order number, with or without a prefix. This is the default category.

  • RMA # — Search by the RMA number (not the internal RMA ID).

  • Tracking Number — Search using the shipment tracking number.

  • Customer Email — Search by the customer's email address.

  • Full Name — Search by the customer's full name.

Clearing your search

To clear the search input, click the X button inside the search bar. This removes any text you have entered.

Search results

A result count is displayed alongside the search results and updates each time you search.

A loading animation appears while the search is running. The "no results" message only appears once the search is complete.

If no results are found, a message is displayed to let you know.

If you search by tracking number and no results are returned, the following message appears: "We couldn't find your order. If your order included multiple shipments, please use the tracking number from the first shipment."

Search and filters together

Search results always reflect any active filters you have applied, including date filters. Filter selections persist as you navigate between screens in the dashboard.

The following rules apply when using search and filters together:

  • If you have active filters and start typing in the search bar, the filters are removed as you type.

  • If you have an active search term and click a filter, the search term is removed.

  • If you change the search category, filters are only removed once you start typing a new search term.

Troubleshooting

No results appear for a tracking number — Check that you are using the tracking number from the first shipment if the order included multiple shipments.

My results don't match what I expected — Check whether any date or other filters are active, as these are applied to your search results.
