This article explains how to switch Klaviyo return events on and off, test them, and resend them from a return.
ℹ️ This article covers Returns V2. If your store is on Returns V1, see Klaviyo x Swap Integration (Returns V1).
Connect your Klaviyo account first — see How to set up the Klaviyo integration (Returns V2).
Where these settings live
Go to Returns → Settings → Emails. Three panels on this tab control your return emails:
Email platform — the Klaviyo and Swap's native tools cards
Integrate — your Klaviyo connection status
Events management — the Enable Klaviyo Email Management toggle and the four events
How to enable Klaviyo events
Go to Returns → Settings → Emails
In the Email platform panel, select Klaviyo
In the Events management panel, turn on Enable Klaviyo Email Management
Switch on each event you want Swap to send
Click Save
At least one event must be active for Enable Klaviyo Email Management to stay on.
The four events
Each event has its own toggle, so you can send only the parts of the return journey you want to build flows for.
Return created
Return processed
Return tracking update
Return delivered
An event that is switched off is not sent to Klaviyo at all, so any flow depending on it will not trigger.
💡 The names in this panel are not the names you use in Klaviyo. In Klaviyo the same events appear as V2- Return Created, V2- Return Processed, V2- Return Tracking Label Update and V2- Return Delivered. See Understanding the Klaviyo integration (Returns V2) for the full mapping.
How this affects Swap's native emails
Turning on Enable Klaviyo Email Management does not switch Swap's native return emails off. The two platforms run independently, and both can be active at the same time.
If you want Klaviyo to be the only sender, disable the native emails yourself in the Email platform panel. See How to customise Swap emails (Returns V2).
⚠️ Swap's native tools send two return emails, Return created and Return received, which cover the same moments as the Klaviyo events Return created and Return delivered. Where both are active, the customer receives two emails for the same moment. Check the native emails before switching either of those two Klaviyo events on.
Return processed and Return tracking update have no native equivalent, so those two carry no duplication risk.
How to send a test event
A test event confirms the connection works before you rely on it.
Go to Returns → Settings → Emails
In the Events management panel, find the event you want to test
Click Send test
Swap sends a sample payload to Klaviyo, so you can confirm that the metric appears in Klaviyo, that the event data is structured as you expect, and that your flow triggers.
Klaviyo only displays a metric once it has received it at least once. On a new connection, sending a test event is what makes the metric selectable as a flow trigger in the first place. Klaviyo's documentation covers building a flow on a metric: How to create a metric-triggered flow.
How to resend an event from a return
You can resend a return email from the return's timeline in the dashboard.
Click Resend email. What happens next depends on your configuration:
With Klaviyo Email Management on, Swap resends the Klaviyo event, which retriggers your flow and sends the email again
With it off, Swap sends the email through its native templates instead
For example, resending a return confirmation sends the V2- Return Created event again.
