To help ensure compliance with U.S. customs regulations, the Compliance Hub includes a Manufacturer & MID Codes section.

This allows you to add Manufacturer details and generate MID Codes, ensuring that accurate product-level data appears on your commercial invoices.

These details help reduce shipment delays and improve customs clearance.

Overview

The Manufacturer & MID Codes section enables you to:

  • Generate or upload MID Codes for your products

  • Add or update Manufacturer Name and Manufacturer Address

  • Add or update Customs Description and Item Description

  • Sync all data to Swap and Shopify metafields for use in commercial invoices

Accessing the Manufacturer & MID Section

  1. Go to the Compliance Hub from your Swap Dashboard.

  2. Open the Manufacturer & MID section.

  3. Click Download CSV Template.

The CSV lists all products in your store, including the following columns:

Adding Manufacturer Details

You can update manufacturer data in two ways.

Option A: Bulk update (same manufacturer for all products)

If the same manufacturer makes all your products:

  1. Enter the Manufacturer Name and Address in the UI.

  2. Select Applies to all.

  3. Swap will generate one MID Code and apply it to all products.

Option B: Individual update (different manufacturers)

If your products come from multiple manufacturers:

  1. Open the downloaded CSV.

  2. Fill in the manufacturer details for each product.

  3. Upload the completed CSV back into the Compliance Hub.

MID Code Generation

Once a Manufacturer Name and Address are provided, Swap automatically generates MID Codes.

  • If your CSV already includes existing MID Codes, those will be kept β€” Swap will not overwrite them.

  • Generated MID Codes appear in the table.

Customs and Item Descriptions

Each product requires a Customs Description and an Item Description. The Customs Description is essential for clearing customs. It typically includes a combination of product details such as material, item type, intended gender, and other attributes required for classification.

You can manage these fields in two ways:

  • Via Shopify: Add descriptions using the dedicated metafields per SKU.

  • Via CSV: Fill or update the values directly before uploading.

When the CSV is uploaded, Swap syncs both descriptions to Shopify and includes them in your commercial invoices.

Saving and Syncing

Before you submit your CSV, make sure every record includes:

  • MID Code

  • Customs Description

  • Item Description

When you click Submit, Swap validates the data and syncs it to our internal systems for customs use.

All fields are also mirrored back to Shopify, so your catalogue remains consistent.

Viewing and Editing Saved Data

When you reopen the Manufacturer & MID Codes section, the most recently uploaded CSV is available for download.

It shows the last saved data for each product, including Manufacturer Name, Address, Customs Description, Item Description, and MID Code.

You can re-upload at any time to update product details.

Only products listed in your new CSV will be changed.
