Tax Breakdown in Magento Checkout

When using Swap Global as the shipping carrier in your Magento 2 store, customers receive transparent pricing at checkout. Thanks to the Tax Breakdown Extension, each charge — from shipping to duties — is clearly itemised wherever shipping is shown.

How It Works

When a customer enters a shipping address, Swap Global automatically updates the shipping rate to include applicable taxes and duties. This ensures accurate pricing without requiring any manual configuration on the merchant’s side.

What Is Shown

The Tax Breakdown Extension adds a line-by-line overview of charges contributing to the final shipping cost. This can include:

  • Shipping rate

  • VAT or sales tax

  • Import duties and fees

If any part of the breakdown (e.g. VAT or duties) is €0, that line is automatically hidden.

If all breakdown values are zero (except the base shipping rate), the full breakdown is hidden from view to reduce clutter.

Where It Appears

The breakdown is automatically shown on the following pages:

  • Shopping cart page

  • Checkout shipping page

  • Checkout payment page

  • Magento Admin order view

Order Notes

After the order is placed, a summary of all charges is added to the order notes in Magento:

  • Shipping rate

  • Taxes (VAT or sales tax)

  • Duties and fees

This helps both merchants and customers easily reference what was charged.

Note: The same breakdown is also visible on the Swap Dashboard for full transparency.
