What are custom fees?

Custom fees are additional charges you can define per shipping zone and collect from customers at checkout. Because they're set per zone, you can apply different fees to different destination countries or regions.

Where to find them

Custom fees live inside each shipping zone's settings in the Swap dashboard. Navigate to any shipping zone to view, create, edit, or delete custom fees for that zone.

Types of custom fees

Fixed amount

A flat charge added to every order in the zone, regardless of order value. Fixed fees are always expressed in your store's base currency.

Percentage

A charge calculated as a percentage of the order subtotal.

ℹ️ If VAT-inclusive pricing is enabled, the subtotal used for this calculation is the sum of pre-VAT product prices — not the Shopify subtotal, which includes VAT.

How custom fees appear at checkout

All custom fees for the shipment's destination zone are calculated at checkout and added to the Duties Fees section of the cost breakdown.

How custom fees appear in order details

Once an order has been placed, all applied fees are shown in the Fees section of the order's details page in the Swap dashboard.
