Swap Global provides a dedicated Tax Hub designed to simplify tax compliance for your business. It offers visibility into your tax obligations, tracks state and country thresholds, and provides the tools you need to manage registrations with confidence.
What Is Tax Hub?
Tax Hub brings together several tools into one dashboard, allowing you to:
See where you are close to, or have already reached, state tax thresholds.
Decide whether Swap should manage tax compliance for you.
Track the progress of registrations and filings, and view your tax setup details at any time.
Tax Compliance Setup
When you first open Tax Hub, you’ll be asked a single key question: Would you like Swap to handle your taxes?
If you select Yes – you’ll complete a guided setup that asks for:
Your company information.
The locations where you sell.
A short Physical Nexus Questionnaire covering warehouses, staff, contractors, and inventory.
Swap will then manage tax registrations on your behalf and keep the dashboard updated.
If you select No – you’ll still see economic nexus tracking in the dashboard, but you won’t see physical nexus details or be able to register directly through Tax Hub unless you opt in later.
Economic Nexus vs Physical Nexus
Tax Hub tracks two types of nexus (tax exposure):
Economic nexus – triggered by sales value or transaction count in each state.
Physical nexus – triggered by having a tangible presence in a state, such as a warehouse, employees, contractors, or stored inventory.
If either threshold is crossed, registration in that state is required.
Historical Data and Sales Channels
Tax Hub automatically imports Shopify sales history (from January 2024 onwards) to calculate nexus. At launch, only Shopify sales are included. Future updates will allow you to see sales from other platforms such as Amazon and Etsy.
U.S. Sales Nexus Dashboard
After setup, you’ll see a colour-coded map showing your status in each state:
Below Threshold – no action is required.
Approaching – you’ve hit 75% of the threshold; start preparing to register.
Action Required – you’ve passed the threshold and must register.
Alerts
You’ll receive email alerts when:
You are approaching a threshold.
You have crossed a threshold (registration is required).
You haven’t taken action for three weeks after hitting the threshold.
Registering for Tax
When you click Register for a state:
Swap’s operations team begins the registration process.
A registration card appears on your dashboard showing:
The current status (e.g. Preparing Application, Submitted, Approved).
Dates and deadlines.
The tax rate for that state and filing history.
As soon as the registration is in progress, that state moves out of the “Action Required” section into a tracked status.
Tax Jurisdictions
The Tax Jurisdiction page is where you can see all ongoing registrations in one place. Each state has its own card showing:
Status updates as Swap’s team works with state authorities.
Key identifiers like registration ID and effective dates.
A timeline of events, such as when the threshold was crossed and when the application was submitted.
A table of tax filings for that state, including download options for records.
Tax Configuration
The Tax Configuration page shows a full summary of your tax setup and lets you make changes at any time. From here you can:
Enable tax collection for states where nexus has been reached.
Review company details, structure, sales channels, and your Physical Nexus Questionnaire responses.
Edit details if your circumstances change (for example, if you open a new warehouse).
