When customers initiate a return through the portal, other than a refund, you can offer them two options: Shop Now and Shop Later. Both options help retain revenue while improving the customer experience.
Shop Now – Exchange for Something Else
Shop Now allows customers to exchange their items for something else immediately. This option is also known as Exchange for Something Else.
How it works
Customers are taken straight to a page to choose a new product. This is a direct exchange and encourages immediate re-purchase.
Different Shop Now Experiences
There are two different experiences:
In-Swap
This Shop Now Experience keeps customers in the Swap Portal. It displays products from your store and actively calculates their current credit based on the returned item value and bonus incentive.
In-Store
The In-Store Shop Now Experience allows customers to browse your Shopify storefront during the return process and select exchange items directly from your live product catalogue. This experience builds on the existing Shop Now flow by integrating product selection into your storefront, offering a more seamless and intuitive user journey.

Incentives
You can offer a percentage on top of the returned item’s value to encourage customers to exchange rather than return.
Example
A customer returns a €50 item. If your incentive is 10%, their credit becomes €55, making it more appealing to purchase something higher in value.
Shop Later
Shop Later gives the customer a digital gift card instead of an immediate exchange.
How it works
The customer receives a gift card with the value of their return. You can optionally add a percentage incentive to increase the value.

This option also supports incentive percentages to make the gift card more valuable and encourage future purchases.
