How to enable order-tag login for marketplace orders (Returns V2)

Explains how order-tag login lets customers with marketplace orders (e.g. Mirakl) access the Swap returns portal when Shopify order numbers aren't available, and how their email and address are handled during that login.

This article explains how to enable order-tag login so customers with marketplace orders — such as those placed via Mirakl — can log in to the Swap returns portal.

Some marketplace platforms don't use Shopify order numbers, which prevents customers from logging in with the standard order number and email combination. Order-tag login solves this by using an order tag as the login identifier instead.

Dedicated returns portal URL

Swap can create a dedicated returns portal URL for platforms like Mirakl. This URL allows customers to log in using order tag information. The default portal URL remains available and uses Shopify order numbers.

  • Both the dedicated and default portals share the same dashboard, RMA table, and settings.

  • The dedicated URL uses the order tag (instead of the order number) as the order ID during login.

  • A different URL means a different portal. Each portal is configured separately.

Handling suffixes in order tags

If your Mirakl order tags include suffixes that customers do not receive (e.g. "-A"), Swap can be configured to ignore one suffix per portal.

  • Only one suffix can be ignored.

  • If the order tags are not unique after removing the suffix, login will not be possible.

Email handling during login

Customers are still required to enter their email address during login (if the security field is enabled), but:

  • The email is not verified against Shopify, as it is not always provided.

  • Once the return is submitted, the entered email is stored on the RMA and used consistently for that return — the confirmation email, any resends, and any data sent to webhooks, the API, and Klaviyo.

  • This does not update the email address on the original Shopify order.

Missing address handling

If a customer's order doesn't have an address on Shopify, Swap prompts them for their address at login, the same way it does for point-of-sale (POS) orders.

The address the customer provides is used for:

  • identifying available carriers in the portal

  • evaluating any applied rules or settings

  • the exchange order address, for exchanges

Swap stores this address on the RMA. This does not update the address on the original Shopify order.
