In Consumer Mode, customers can add protection to their orders by paying a small additional premium at checkout. This mode directly shifts the cost of protection to the customer, offering them an added layer of security while ensuring compliance with Shopify’s terms.
How Consumer Mode Works
Widget on the Cart Page
After adding the widget through the Theme Editor, a “Protect Your Order” widget is displayed on the cart page.
The protection option is unchecked by default. Customers must actively opt-in by selecting the widget, ensuring compliance with Shopify’s regulations prohibiting pre-selected or auto-checked options.
Adding the Premium to the Cart
When customers choose to protect their order, a new line item for the protection premium is added to their cart.
This line item is visible:
On the cart page.
Throughout the checkout process.
In the customer’s final order details and invoice.
Protected Orders Dashboard
Only orders where customers opted in for protection are covered.
You can view these orders in the Protected Orders section of the Swap Protect dashboard, which includes details about coverage and claims.

Theme Compatibility
Currently, the widget only supports the main cart page.
At this time, side drawers or pop-up carts are not compatible with the protection widget.
